MM: How do you feel about skeptics?

Roop: They are needed to push for more information and to look in different places for the answers. Skeptics balance the over-believers. I suppose they balance everything out.

MM: When did you know you had abilities and how did you know?

Roop: I guess I still question if I really have abilities. Any abilities I have are dwarfed by the rest the team. I have had foretelling dreams since I was a kid. But being with ISPR since 1998, have I been able to enhance my abilities, and have the ISPR team members help me to understand better what is going on.

MM: How do your abilities work?

Roop: I can feel energy, emotion and history of a given place or person. The more active a place, the easier it is to feel. I have learned to listen and to feel the little clues your body emits. The information just comes to me, I feel a warm flush on the upper front part of my head when it starts. I totally believe that everyone can learn to enhance an ability with work and it sure helps to have guidance from people who already know what's going on!

MM: How do you apply your abilities?

Roop: I have worked very hard to learn how to turn my abilities on and off. Because I'm still learning about my abilities, I try to use them more in the presence of other people, but always while working with ISPR. I can help confirm or narrow "hotspots" while on an investigation. Daena Smoller and I seem to have similar timing. If I think something's happening I will try tohone in on it, once I'm sure I feel it, I will share what I'm feeling and the information I'm getting. Most the time, I'm video taping theinvestigation, so I share only when I have a really strong feeling.

MM: What are your personal goals regarding paranormal research?

Roop: To further push the envelope in finding out more about the unknown. To unlock secrets of the mind and help people to feel more comfortable with all the things that seem to dodge reason. On a personal note, I also do it for me. To help answer the questions that I have, to unlock the doors I face. I believe the answer to more paranormal events lies within humans. When ISPR for instance, does an investigation, not only is the place investigated, but the people in and around can also provide much insight. So it is the study of people and how they are affected or how they effect a situation that I really find fascinating.

MM:
What do you think about other team member's abilities?

Roop: ISPR has a team with varying abilities. Each member seems to have a different sense, all which add in an investigation. Linda has the ability to receive names, dates and places of entities. She can also, many times, draw on spirits around her to give her information about a place or person. Her psychic sense is also enhanced by her ability to us and distribute energy. Linda can amaze you with her very accurate facts and awareness during an investigation.

Daena uses an ability, which I personally am glad I do not have, to not only feel what the entity had felt, but sometimes have the entity enter her body and use it as a vehicle! No thank you, but Daena does it and handles it like the pro she is! I know how much it can effect her, between the loss of energy and the residual physical aftermath, she helps the team draw a more complete picture during the investigation.

Derek has the uncanny ability to hear the entities. He can converse and hear as normal as if the energy was in the flesh. His ability helps the team greatly because of the amount of information he can receive and the instant communication with an entity. As with Linda and Daena, he also sometimes feels what the entity feels. As with the rest of the team, to see him work is amazing!

Ron came to the team like me, without prior knowledge or experience with psychic abilities, but has learned to not only see entities in some cases, but feel and identifies "hotspots" in an investigation. He adds a very fair, honest, gut feeling with his insight. It seems like he and I both step back and say "Is this really happening?". Again, everyone fits in the puzzle that forms the ISPR team.

Dr. Montz leads the team with quite powerful abilities. I know Dr. Montz has the ability to draw on all the individual team psychic abilities. He can nail "hotspots" and moving entities with absolute certainty. He can draw and release energy to control an investigation. His inner vision is very sharp and accurate. All of his abilities add up and make him the great team leader he is. He is the common bond that holds the team a whole. Sounds like I'm brown-nosing - but that's what I know! [laughs].

MM: What gives you the most satisfaction about doing the work you do?

Roop: Trying to help people understand unexplained events or to help put people at ease because we (ISPR) can sometimes help confirm what they have a hard time understanding. The fact is this, ISPR does not have the answers always, but one of our main goals is to research and explore what we don't know. Right now, it's very hard to get hard core physical evidence to present to the public, but we are gathering information and gaining large ground to change that. This is what excites me, the possibility to share new evidence and educate the public!

MM: Are you ever afraid?

Roop: Yes! I would be lying if I said no. Sometimes, during an investigation, your body feels an entity is present. Your little hairs go on end and you get the chills. You sense something's not normal; the energy changes and there can be fear. You can feel what the entity feels sometimes; hurt, sad, scared, lost, or angry. It can get very hairy sometimes.

MM: What is your professional background?

Roop: I was in law enforcement for two years before joining the US Air Force, where I was an instructor in Las Vegas and England. I was named Airman Instructor of the Year in 1993, for my base (RAF Chicksands), US Air Forces in England and US Air Forces in Europe. After being in the Air Force for four years, I came home to help the my family's small jewelry business in Laguna Beach, California, were I became a jeweler and webmaster. I now am a part owner in that business. I have an extensive knowledge base in electronics and computers.

MM:
Are there any times or situations that you feel you could be in danger?

Roop: Yes, but only because of the uncertain nature of the investigations. Sometimes entities can influence a mood swing without you even knowing it, team members can become hostile with out notice. We all watch each other, we make sure to notice even the smallest changes. When a team member has taken in an entity, we all know to keep on our toes, because that team member is only a vehicle, the entity is really who we have to watch and that can sometimes get dangerous because of the unknown actions that entity takes.

MM:
Name some examples of fraud that you've seen.

Roop: Well, sometimes I see people who calm to be a professional, merely walk into a place with a video camera and a temperature gauge and claim that a house is haunted, but offer no reason or explanation. They prey on the fact that people believe a property is haunted. Another instance, a graveyard does not offer a good area to find paranormal activity, yet many, so called professional clubs, claim that cemeteries are the best place to find activity. It's just the lack of information or wrong information that just bugs me. This is the real thing, it's not a game.

MM: Do you feel your teammates are ever in danger?

Roop: Yes.

MM: Are there any aspects of the work you do that you feel or know, poses health problems?

Roop: Other than the draining of energy during an investigation, I have never experienced heath problems due to work done with ISPR.

MM: Do you read books regarding paranormal matters and if so, what kinds?

Roop: No.

MM: What are some inaccuracies that have been printed or broadcasted about you?

Roop: I can't think of any.

MM: Should an investigator clear a property without consultation or permission?

Roop: I think that it is not the job of ISPR to "clear" activity without: 1.Team consultation 2. Owner permission 3. Only if the activity is a danger to people or causes undue stress. This is just my opinion.

MM: Have you ever been injured due to the work you perform?

Roop: I was choked once while talking to someone in the Vogue theater. My natural reaction was to get out of that area as quick is possible, but I played it cool so not to scare the other person who had no idea other then the fact that one minute I was talking, the next I was not (and could not). I slowly moved us away, then later explained why. He said that while that was going on, he felt something was wrong, but just thought nothing of it.

MM: Any details about your life that may have shaped your decision to do this kind of work?

Roop: I love to help people. I love to educate people. ISPR allows me to do both. The subject matter we deal with is fascinating. I learn something new every time the team gets together. The fact that I am able to converse and work with such a wonderful group of minds, I know I'm lucky. Add all of that together, and I hope to be part of ISPR till I'm old and gray.

MM: How do you feel about people who make claims and/or copy and why?

Roop: I just wish people would be more responsible in what they do. There are too many people they can hurt or misguide because of bad or wrong information. Every action has a reaction. I can read a book and watch TV shows about how to build a house, but you wouldn't want to hire me to build your house based only on that knowledge. Remember, ISPR is led by Dr. Larry Montz, Ph.D. Parapsychologist. He leads a balanced team that acts in a professional manner. Many hours are put into an investigation. People and cases are screened to insure to the investigations are true and consist of fact, not fiction. ISPR is not a club, we are a group of people who all know what their job is and work together as one. ISPR will continue to lead in paranormal research, by leaps and bounds, in a professional manner, because of one simple reason, he continued search for knowledge and the desire to share our findings to better educate and help the public.
